30MW CAT Power Station in Mali
Syama Gold Mine Case Study
USP&E successfully delivered a 30MW CAT power station for Syama Gold Mine in Mali, providing reliable energy for the process plant and water systems. With low-hour Caterpillar 3516B and 3512 engines, the power station was designed to meet the mine’s complex energy needs, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards. This project exemplifies USP&E’s ability to deliver efficient and dependable energy solutions for mining operations.
Background
Energy Infrastructure for Gold Mining in Mali
Syama Gold Mine includes the Syama Underground Mine, Tabakoroni Complex (with open-pit and new underground reserves), and satellite oxide pits. Managed by Société des Mines de Syama S.A. (SOMISY), Resolute holds 80%, with the
Government of Mali owning 20%. Tabakoroni Complex is under Société des Mines de Finkolo S.A. (SOMIFI), a Resolute Group subsidiary.
Challenges
Navigating Complexities in Mining Energy Requirements
Syama Gold Mine faces challenges in safety, environmental management, production efficiency, logistics, regulation compliance, community relations, and financial risk mitigation. Coordination among Resolute Group subsidiaries adds complexity.
Solution
30MW CAT Power Station Installation for Mining Operations
USP&E was selected to supply, install and operate a 30MW Caterpillar power station for process plant and process water supply to the mine site. The engines were low hour Cat 3516B and 3512 engines with 11kV alternators and new switchgear.
Outcome / Testimonial
Reliable Energy Supply for Syama Gold Mine
“USP&E installed commissioned and operated over 30 MW in total diesel Power Plant capacity for our operations in Mali Africa in 2007-2010. We are satisfied with the operation of our equipment and pleased with the services purchased from USP&E.”
