Bay Minette Biomass Conversion Project
Renewable Energy Case Study
The Bay Minette Biomass Conversion Project highlights USP&E’s expertise in delivering reliable energy solutions for renewable energy facilities. Tasked with optimising Alleo Energy’s biomass conversion facility, USP&E provided comprehensive Operations & Maintenance (O&M) services, including SCADA system commissioning and system redesigns. This project, producing over 230 million litres of renewable diesel annually, showcases USP&E’s commitment to enhancing performance and sustainability in the energy sector.
Background
Renewable Diesel Production at Bay Minette Biomass Facility
Bay Minette, AL. is home to the Alleo Energy biomass conversion facility designed originally by Proton Power but more recently developed and controlled by Alleo Energy. With a design capacity of production over 230m litres per year of renewable diesel, the plant is a strategically well-located biomass conversion facility that converts wood chips to ASTM D975 liquid diesel fuel.
Challenges
Addressing Operational Inefficiencies in Biomass Conversion
Alleo Energy hired USP&E as owner’s engineer and operational readiness consultant, which then lead to a long-term Operations and Maintenance (O&M) contract. The client’s engineers were struggling with reliability due to excessive tarring.
Solution
USP&E’s O&M Services and SCADA System Optimisation
USP&E mobilised a team of experts from around the world to address reliability and optimise the power station. Our personnel worked 24/7 for over a year to troubleshoot, assist with redesigns, commission the SCADA systems, and ensure optimal performance.
Outcome / Testimonial
Delivering Reliable Energy Solutions for Alleo Energy
“USP&E has delivered upon its commitments with real-time support amid adverse circumstances. We recognise this as an invaluable contribution to our progress together. We are intent on seamlessly continuing to work with USP&E in this capacity.”
