40MW HFO Power Plant in Guinea
EDG Power Generation Project Case Study
The Guinea Power Generation Project demonstrates USP&E’s ability to deliver energy infrastructure solutions under challenging conditions. This 40MW HFO power plant, commissioned for EDG, was completed ahead of schedule and improved power access in Guinea, where only 26% of the population has reliable electricity. By addressing infrastructure issues, USP&E helped enhance operational efficiency and energy reliability for the region.
Background
Electricity Access and Power Infrastructure in Guinea
With current installed generation capacity at just over 550MW, only 26% of Guineans have access to reliable energy. And only 11% in rural areas.
Challenges
Addressing Electricity Distribution Challenges for EDG
Electricity distribution under EDG suffers from weak governance, old infrastructure, poor maintenance of assets, frequent blackouts, high electricity theft rates and losses, poor billing and collection rates, and overall poor financial performance.
Solution
Delivering a 40MW HFO Power Station for Guinea
40 MW HFO project with 4 x MAN 18v32/40 engines on operating on medium fuel oil (RME180). The project took 10 months to complete and was commissioned 2 months ahead of schedule, on budget.
